April 2025

After last month’s dip in the depths of sea mat time I thought it more pertinent to concentrate on the present. The following is a quick look at some of the work I’ve been turning over as I continue to think about how to visualise my subject.

I find the sea mat to be a very difficult subject to approach.

I always want to try new things, learn new techniques.

But this is difficult. Should I approach it literally, scientifically; or just let the muse lead me?

Here I’m beginning to think about the life cycle of the sea mat colonies. How the larvae cast themselves wide and vast into the sea. At some points during the year there are more sea mat larvae than than any other..

Then I began to think about the behaviour of the

sea mat itself and found myself making this

humorous wee sketch..
